IndianOil
- R&D Centre Awarded the coveted WIPO GOLD MEDAL
The innovative prowess of IndianOil’s R&D Centre
has been recognized worldwide once again. The IndianOil-R&D
has been bestowed with the coveted WIPO (World Intellectual
Property Organisation) gold medal for the Development
& Commercialization of Novel Process Technology,
'INDE Sweet & INDE Treat’, for Removal of H2S&
Mercaptans from LPG through Continuous Film Contactor
(CFC).
Mr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to
Govt. of India, presented the award, which carries a
gold medal and certificate to IndianOil’s R&D Centre,
at a conference on “Leveraging Innovations & Inventions”
in New Delhi on October 15, 2007.
This hallmark technology of IndianOil-R&D had earlier
received the prestigious NRDC (National Research and
Development Council) award, comprising a certificate
and a cash prize of Rs. 2,00,000/- in 2006 for Best
Invention. Commercialised jointly with EIL, the technology
has already been implemented in the Guwahati Refinery
of IndianOil and also in Kochi Refineries Limited (KRL).
It is also under various stages of implementation at
11 locations, in the refineries of IndianOil, HPCL,
BRPL, MRPL, CPCL and BORL.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated
to developing a balanced and accessible international
intellectual property system, which rewards creativity,
stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development
while safeguarding the public interest. Headquartered
in Geneva, Switzerland, WIPO was established by WIPO
convention in 1967 with a mandate from its member states
to promote the protection of Intellectual Property throughout
the world through cooperation among states and in collaboration
with other international organizations.
