| IndianOil Conferred BML Munjal Award 2009 for Excellence in Learning & Development

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IndianOil), the largest commercial enterprise in the country and the highest ranked Indian corporate in the Fortune ‘Global 500’ listing, has been conferred the prestigious BML Munjal Award for Excellence in Learning & Development for the year 2009.
The sole award in the ‘Public Sector’ category was presented to IndianOil Chairman, Mr. Sarthak Behuria, by Mr. BM Munjal, Chairman of the Hero Group of Companies, at a glittering function held at New Delhi on February 12, 2009, in the presence of a large number of dignitaries. The other award winner, in the ‘Private Sector’ category, was HSBC-India.
The BML Munjal Awards, conceived four years ago, track companies which have made investments in people as a precious resource and which have consistently used training, learning and development as a source of competitive advantage and as a business strategy. The jury particularly took note of the strategic and general management programmes of IndianOil, which covered all levels. The citation accompanying the award recognised IndianOil’s success in creating a training ambience consistent with its corporate policy and strategy through a well-thought-through training vision, mission and integrated training model.
Acknowledging the recognition, Mr. Behuria said that IndianOil firmly believes in innovative business strategies and robust HRD systems as the foundations for sustained corporate growth. As a corporate that prides itself as an ‘academy’ company with a strong learning network within the organisation, the award will reinforce IndianOil’s ongoing efforts to build the competencies, strategic orientation and skills of its 32,000-strong workforce so as to consolidate its core businesses and strengthen its new business forays, he said.
The jury for this year’s awards comprised such luminaries as Mr. Deepak Parekh, HDFC Chairman, Mr. Ajay Shriram of DCM Shriram, Mr. Arun Maira of Boston Consulting Group, Ms. Shobhana Bhartia of The Hindustan Times Group, Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal of Hero Corporate Services Ltd. and Dr. Vinaysheel Gautam of IIT-Delhi.
