R&D Centre wins Technology Day Award 2010
The R&D centre won the prestigious Technology Day Award 2010, for successful commercialisation of indigenous technology of multifunctional additives. The award given away by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, at a grand function organised on May 11, 2010. The award consisted of an elegant trophy and a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh. The Technology Day celebrations were organised by the Technology Development Board, Government of India. Mr. Anand Kumar, Director, R&D & SHE (I/c) and Dr. R. K. Malhotra, ED (R&D) received the award.

R&D Centre was conferred the award for the successful development and commercialisation of Multifunctional additives for Premium Grade Diesel (SERVO - DMFA) and Lubricity additives for Ultra low sulphur Diesel (SERVO LI), developed indigenously by the R&D Scientists. SERVO DMFA, a high performance additive for Premium Grade Diesel has been developed with excellent detergence/dispersant characteristics.

Dr. Kalam said, "The Government of India constituted the Technology Development Board (TDB) in September 1996, under the Technology Development Board Act, 1995, which is a statutory body to promote development and commercialisation of indigenous technology and adaptation of imported technology for wider application. The TDB is the first organisation of its kind within the government framework with the sole objective to commercialise the fruit of indigenous research. The Board plays a pro-active role by encouraging enterprises to take up technology oriented products." In his concluding message, Dr. Kalam congratulated IndianOil for successfully commercialising their inventions. "Rising awareness is imperative for adopting environment-friendly technologies," he said.

Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of State, Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, said, "Today science and technology has become an essential commodity for our progress and prosperity."

A powerful presentation highlighting how Indians should invent, develop and enforce futuristic technologies for the benefit of the nation, was also presented by Mr. Arun Maira, Member, Planning Commission.

This is the 2nd time that R&D Centre is being conferred with the Technology Day award. In 2003, similar award was given for the successful invention and commercialisation of Indmax technology that is put to use for enhanced refining of petroleum products in the Hydrocarbon industry.
