Ans: The promotion of sports is integral to IndianOil's CSR philosophy. It is aimed at providing opportunities to outstanding sports persons with a view to facilitating their performance in bringing laurels for the corporation as well as the country.
 
 Q.What are the Sports games that IndianOil promotes?

Ans: IndianOil has been promoting sports in a big way for about two decades now. In line with the sports policy adopted by the Corporation in 1985, IndianOil participates in various meets & tournaments organized by PSPB or other bodies in the following sports / games. At present IndianOil is participating in 10 events in the PSPB Inter-unit competitions held annually through recruited and non-recruited sports persons.

 Q. What are the selection procedures for identifying Sportspersons in IndianOil?

Ans: Sports persons are engaged after identifying their performance in various tournaments or through their respective National federation or existing players of IndianOil or both. A selection committee is formed for interviewing the candidates. A suitable Competant Authority approves recruitment based on the recommendations of the committee. Sports persons already under contract with outside agencies, on the day of consideration of engagement, for endorsement of products shall be considered for engagement only if they terminate the contract with other agencies. If they are unwilling, they will not be considered. The purpose of recruiting sportspersons is to nurture their talent early on and enhance their performance at the National and International levels. Hence, among others, the Chief criterion in selection is the promise the sportsperson holds to reach greater heights in his or her chosen discipline at the National and International Levels. It is, of course a matter of pride for IndianOil that, over the years, promising sportspersons recruited by the Corporation went on to reach their peak in their respective disciplines.

 Q. What are the minimum requirements in education qualification, age and performance level for selection of Sportsperson in IndianOil?

Ans: Minimum requirements for selection:

a. Minimum educational qualification - SSC

b. Age : Minimum age is 18 years and the Maximum age is 21 years for Badminton, Cricket, Hockey, Tennis, Table Tennis and 28 years for Carrom, Chess, Golf and Snooker / Billiards

Ans: At the time of engagement as a tenure base player we give the following monthly stipend:

 Q. How many years of training period is there for Sportspersons before appointment in Grade?

Ans: The players are placed on a 3-year tenure basis extendable for 1 year. They may be appointed either as staff in Grade III to VI Marketing Division or and Grade IV to VIII in other divisions Grade 'A' officers in All Division subject to their performance level and qualifications. Recruitment of sportspersons shall form part of the total planned recruitment for the organization.

 Q. Who is the Competent Authority for recruitment if Sportsperson in IndianOil?

Ans: Competent authority for approving the confirmation of players, will be the HR head of the respective Division. All proposals for recruitment shall be cleared by Director (HR).

 Q. What are the promotional policy for Sportsperson in IndianOil?

Ans: No individual sportsperson will be normally eligible for promotion beyond the grade of Sr. Manager on the basis of sporting achievements. In very exceptional cases of top performances, promotions on the basis of sporting achievements and National awards are considered. Such cases will be approved by Director (HR).

Ans: Performance of the players is reviewed by Regional Nodal officers as given below:

a. Quaterly & Half yearly

b. Through event based monitoring.

c. Counseling by Nodal Officers / Coaches for below par performances.

 Q. What are the facilities as regard to time off for players for practice /camp during the Office hours?

Ans: The recruited sports persons are given time off for increasing competence in various games during the active phase of their career. Whenever there are camps, the players are given leave for whole day for the specific period of such camps. Players who are required to compete at highest level and required to practice 7 to 8 hours daily are given longer period of leave and also allowed to join a professional sports academy.

 Q. How many tournaments/ camp in a year a player is permitted to participate at the National/State level and what are the facilities given to them?

Ans: The players are allowed to choose 8 tournaments for which their absence are treated as on duty. For other tournaments they are permitted to participate on case to case basis. For attending national camps, they get one fourth daily allowance where the lodging and boarding is provided by the Federation plus they are given to and fro travel journey as per their entitlement. Whenever the players want to participate in the tournament, whenever overnight train journey is not available, they are allowed to travel by air with the permission of competent authority. Players attending national / state camps are given special leave.

 Q. What are the facilities given to the player taking part in the International tournaments?

Ans: For Players selected to represent the national team in International tournaments their absence is treated as a special leave. In individual or team games, when the expenses for boarding and lodging, travel are not taken by the respective Federation, then with the help of the Petroleum Sports Promotion board, the expenses are paid to the player for participation in the international tournament on a case to case basis. Players are allowed to travel by the entitled class from the place of stay to the location before embarking for foreign tours.

 Q. What are the facilities given to the players/coach/manager while representing the IndianOil in the All India Open tournament and National Championship?

Ans: Players/Coach/Manager when representing the corporate team are treated as on duty. The Non-officers are entitled to stay in a hotel as per grade A officer entitlement and are eligible for entitlement of TA, DA as per Grade A officer. The players are given kit items as per the policy of the corporation and also to the coach and manager. The players associated in sports activities at the State / National level in the capacity of a coach / manager, are treated as on duty and will be entitled to travel by air when overnight journey is not available.

 Q. What are the facilities given to the players who are going abroad to play as professional players for the clubs in the league or county championships?

Ans: For the Sportspersons who are professionally playing for various overseas clubs under the obligations of their membership or invitation with or from the club, special leave (leave without pay after adjusting EL of the player) for a period not exceeding 5 months in a year is given and at the same time there should not be any Corporation matches in the country.

 Q. Does IndianOil appoint Coaches for its Corporate team and what are the facilities given to them?

Ans: Well known Coaches are appointed, wherever required, for various games. Honorarium for the coaches is fixed based on their merit in the respective games. The coaches appointed are treated as on duty as per grade A officer entitlement and are entitled to travel by air when overnight journey is not available. Hotel accommodation is per grade A officer entitlement.

 Q. Does IndianOil invite guest players to represent its team in tournament?

Ans: Whenever a full team for any event cannot be formed due to non-availability of regular players (due to injury or engagement with national / international tournaments) guest players including sports scholar's (scholarship holder) are invited to play for IndianOil in the tournament.

 Q. What are the assignments given to players after joining IndianOil?

Ans: The recruited sports persons will continue to take part in the tournaments till such time they are physically fit. During this period they are assigned work suited to their background and aptitude in any Department / Establishment to the Organisation so as to ensure that they contribute towards the success of the organization along with building the team in the relevant discipline. As long as sports persons are considered "active" in sports, their performance appraisal rating shall be based on the sports performance. After their active participating career in sports is over, they are assigned to suitable disciplines of the Division depending upon their qualifications, suitability and ready availability for coaching.

After a player has been decategorized and absorbed in the mainstream his/ her services may be utilized by way of active participation, coaching / training of youngsters, association with various sports bodies, enhancing Corporate image in general by his stature and activities in the sports field. Their contribution to sports are given due weightage. Services of Sports veterans could be gainfully employed for training and coaching recruited players as well as employees children.

 Q. Are there any code of conduct for player in IndianOil, if yes then what are they?

Ans: Players have to wear the IndianOil colours on all occasions except when asked to wear the India Colours. Players will identify and introduce themselves in all public appearances as a member of the IndianOil family. Players shall be made to sign an undertaking at the time of joining that forbids them from endorsing IndianOil's competitors products. Players will declare cash awards won by them as per applicable CDA rules / standing Orders. Players to accept sponsorships with prior approval of HR head of the Division. Players to give over riding priority to Corporation's tournament over other events. If any sportsperson fails to adhere to above norms, necessary action as deemed fit by the management would be taken in terms of the CDA Rules / Sports policy. Disciplinary action for failure to observe code of conduct will be initiated against the sports persons. These codes are in addition to the normal codes / certified standing orders for our officers / staff.

Ans: The Annual Inter Regional Sports meet / tournament are held on rotation basis by each region in Marketing Division and by each unit in case of Refineries and pipelines divisions. The players who have been recruited directly under any Sports category will not participate in this tournament.

Ans: All sports activities conducted by the Corporation are with the objective of promoting spots and image building. Sports activities shall be conducted through the Divisional Sports Co-ordinators.

Ans: Divisional HR heads identify avenues for decategorised sportspersons. Low performers are decategorised irrespective of their age. Such players are communicated to about their impending decategorisation in writing, before decatogrising them. The Maximum number of players to be engaged game wise are identified.

Ans: The detail of IndianOil Sports Scholarship Scheme for Junior Players is as given below:

a. Objectives : The objective of this scheme to award IndianOil Sports Scholarships to promising young players with a view to encourage talent and create a pool of sportspersons from whom to select sport appointees to the Corporation.

c. Age : Scholarship are given to upcoming junior players in age group of 15-18 years except in case of potential / talented players below 15 years but above 14 years.

d. Application : The application are to be routed through and recommended by Appropriate Authority / Institution (such as Head / Principal of Institution / School) along with a certified copy of standing by a sports scholar in appropriate nation/ state level issued by concerned Sports Authority to the selection committee and they will recommend names to the Competent Authority i.e. Director (HR) for the selection of players for sports scholarship.

e. Period of Scholarship : All sports scholarships are for a period of three years with no extension and will be discontinued in case the performance of the player is not satisfactory.

f. Performance report: The sports scholars are required to submit their performance report immediately after the completion of a tournament with necessary press clippings through the Head of the Institution / Principal.

g. IndianOil Logo :The sports scholars will have to wear T-shirts and tracksuits given to them with the Logo while playing in the tournaments and while practicing also. They will also carry the kit bag with the logo during practice and tournaments.

h. Representing the Corporate team : The sports scholars may also be called upon to represent Corporate teams in case of requirement.

i. Exceptionally talented/ potential sports scholar(s) in any game and not meeting the age or eligibility criteria, are considered with the approval of Director (HR).

k.Value of scholarship & Kit items : The value of scholarship will be Rs. 5000 and more per month depend upon each game in addition to kit items (T-shirt - 4 nos., track suit - 1 nos., kit bag - 1 no., every year ).

l.Duration of Scholarship : The duration for sports scholarship for sports scholar shall be for a period of 3 years. After the completion of one year duration of the period of sports scholarship, the performance of the players will be reviewed based on his performance / achievements in the State level / National level, and All India Ranking tournaments. For junior / sub-juniors. Based on the same, sports scholarship will be extended for the second year. The extension for the third year will be based on the performance in the 2nd year of sports scholarship. In case, the performance of a player in the first year is not upto the mark the Management may terminate the scholarship granted to the upcoming sport scholar. A fresh sports scholar may be selected in lieu of the above. In the event, while availing the scholarship the scholar attains 18 years of age, then the extension of the scholarship beyond the 1st year of 2nd year, as the case may be, shall be considered on merits on a case to case basis.

m.Other conditions for award of scholarship:

i. The sports scholarship player will not be entitled to draw any other scholarship/ financial aid / aid / stipend from any other source whatsoever for the sporting activity.

ii. There is no obligation on the part of IndianOil to give employment to the IndianOil Sports scholars.

iii. The prescribed sports scholarship amount may be amended by the management of IndianOil from time to time.

n. At present the list of 13 nos. Scholarship Players as per details are given below and 59 nos of scholarship more will be added after 1st November 2008:

Ans: IndianOil plans to promote sports in the country by way of spotting and nurturing young talents as also through sponsorship of events. The purpose of recruiting sportspersons is to nurture their talent early on and enhance their performance at the National and International levels. Hence, among others, the Chief criterion in selection is the promise the sportsperson holds to reach heights in his or her chosen discipline at the National and International Levels. It is, of course a matter of pride for IndianOil that, over the years, promising sportspersons recruited by the Corporation went on to reach their peak in their own disciplines.

 Q. What is the Administrative set-up for Sports in IndianOil?

Ans: All sports activities conducted by the Corporation, are with the objective of promoting sports and image building. The coordination of all sports activities at the Corporate Level will be handled by Corporate Sports Incharge who in turn will coordinate with Divisions through the Sports Coordinators nominated within each Division under the Divisional HR Head. Divisional Sports Coordinator shall be responsible for all sports activities regarding participation of IndianOil Team as well as individual Sports Persons in any tournament. Divisional Sports Coordinator shall be responsible for necessary action regarding grant of permission to IndianOil team and / or individual Sports Persons for participation in International tournaments abroad. Divisional Sports Coordinators shall monitor the performance of the Sports Persons in their Divisions through the Regional Nodal Officers designated by them.

 Q. What are the undertakings IndianOil takes from a Player?

Ans: He/She shall clearly specify himself as IndianOil employee on all occasions before the media. He/She shall identify himself in all public appearance first as a member of IndianOil Family and then by any other identify except in case of International events where identity as a representative of India takes precedence over IndianOil. Whenever he is participating in the prize money tournaments, he shall obtain the prior permission of the Management and if he win, the same shall be informed to ED (HR) of his division immediately after the completion of the tournament. He shall wear IndianOil crest in all State / National / International level tournaments and will not wear logo / crest of other companies under any circumstances, unless and until it is made compulsory by the concerned Sports Authority and with the prior permission of the Management. While taking part in various tournaments, besides wearing IndianOil colours, he shall always carry Kit bag with IndianOil Logo. If any tournament is clashing with IndianOil tournament, he shall take part in the official / Corporation matches / tournaments only. He shall obtain prior permission of the Management before leaving for playing the International tournaments. He shall not accept any sponsorship without formal and prior approval of the Management. He shall not endorse IndianOil's competitors products ever. He shall submit his detailed performance report with relevant press cuttings to his controlling sports officer on monthly basis. He shall always correspond through his respective Controlling Officer with a copy to respective Sports-Coordinator of the Region. It is obligatory on part to obtain Management's permission 8-10 days in advance for participating in any tournament. He shall attend the office regularly either in morning or afternoon depending on his practice schedule.
