Drive against illegal LPG cylinders to be launched
Rajkot   03-Jan-2011

In order to find a way out of the severe shortage of LPG cylinders, the Rajkot collector has ordered the administration to start recovering cylinders from those customers who are keeping them despite getting piped gas from the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC).

"As per an estimation, against 50,000 customers getting piped gas, only 6,000 LPG cylinder connections have been officially surrendered. The collector has asked the food and civil supply department to launch a drive to recover the surplus cylinders on a war footing across the city and district," said an official from the collectorate.

The administration is also training its guns on illegal users of LPG cylinders - mostly restaurateurs and owners of the roadside eateries. The collector has ordered the food and civil supply department to impound cylinders from the offenders, impose fine on them or attach their business properties if need be.

Meanwhile, the collector has sent a letter to IndianOil, seeking to expedite the refilling process as towns including Gondal, Jasdan and Jetpur in the district have been hit hard by the LPG shortage.
