Paradip oil spills into Kaudia river

Hundreds of acres of prawn gheries and river creeks were affected due to leakage of crude oil from the Halidia-Paradip pipeline of the IndianOil (IOCL) near Sandhkud under Kujanga tehsil in Jagatsinghpur district.

According to sources, on Thursday night, the pipeline leaked with oil spreading into Kaudia river and creeks. Huge quantity of crude oil was found floating on the surface of water.

IOCL Officers rushed to the spot and started repairing of the pipeline. Above 5 km of river water was polluted and many prawn gheries were seriously affected. Two affected prawn ghery owners Manash Tarai and Ranjan Das Mohapatra demanded adequate compensation.

They claimed that they lost over Rs 10 lakh because of the oil spill. The IOCL collected five tanker-full of crude oil from river and creeks by Friday evening.
