IOC urges for halt to harassment of Manipur truckers
Guwahati   01-Feb-2011

The IndianOil (IOC) has asked the Assam Government to see that the Manipur bound oil tankers are not harassed in that State.

The IOC move has come in the wake of the transporters stand to stop plying on the National Highway 39 due to security reasons.

Few days ago Karbi militants fired at the Manipur transporters injuring some of them critically.

On Sunday, IOC officials met Manipur Chief Minister Ibobi Singh in Imphal and discussed the fuel scarcity in the State.

Manipur has been facing acute fuel problem as a consequence of the United Naga Council sponsored two month blockade of highways mid last year.

On Sunday, the top IOC officials after meeting Ibobi appealed to the oil tanker operators to reconsider their stand. The officials said that taking the NH-39 route is much convenient and shorter in distance than plying on the NH-53.
