Tension at IndianOil refinery project site
Kolkata/Bhubaneswar   31-Mar-2011

Tension prevailed at the site of the oil refinery project of IndianOil (IOCL) in Paradip as labourers clashed with the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) personnel.

The irate labourers locked the main gate of the refinery project on Wednesday, demanding action against CISF employees.

Sources said that CISF personnel restricted the entry of the labourers to the newly constructed road in the refinery project area.

However, Bibhu Prasad Beura, one of the contract labourers, forcibly entered into the restricted area, ignoring the instruction of CISF.

Later, one CISF constable attacked this labourer as a result of which he was seriously injured.

Thereafter, hundreds of labourers rushed to the spot and ransacked the office of assistant commandant, CISF at the project site.

Besides damaging the glasses and doors, the irate labourers threw the documents out of the camp office. This led to clash between labourers and CISF personnel following which police rushed to the spot.

Later, irate labourers staged an agitation in front of the refinery project by locking the main gate, demanding stern action against CISF personnel.

The Kujang police led by inspector in charge, Gupteswer Bhoi rushed to the spot and intervened to normalize the situation through amicable discussions between the labourers and CISF personnel.

“No one has lodged an FIR in this connection and therefore no case has been registered in the police station on this matter. The situation has been brought under control by the intervention of the police”, said Bhoi.

Meanwhile, the errant CISF constables have tendered apology with the labourers for attacking the contract labourer.

Consequently, the irate labourers have called off their stir.
