Eight Indian firms in ‘Fortune’ 500 list

Eight Indian firms have made the cut in the list of world's 500 largest companies compiled by Fortune magazine, with IndianOil finding a place in the top 100 and Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) in 134th spot.

Out of the eight, five are state-run entities. IndianOil cornered the 98th spot, up from 125th place last year. Mukesh Ambani led RIL has also improved from previous year's 175.

Other Indian firms in the list are Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (271), State Bank of India (291), Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd (335), Tata Motors Ltd (358), Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (360) and Tata Steel Ltd (369).
