IndianOil breaks into Top 100 of Fortune listing, climbs 27 notches to 98th position

IndianOil, India's flagship energy corporation, continued to lead the set of Indian companies in the prestigious Fortune Global 500 listing of the world’s largest companies by sales for 2011 with an overall ranking of 98. India’s largest petroleum company, under the leadership of chairman RS Butola, improved its overall ranking by 27 notches from last year’s 125th position with a revenue of $68,837 million and profit of $1,719 million to break into the top 100. The compilation of the 500 largest companies is an annual feature by Fortune magazine and IndianOil has made it to the list every year for the past several years. Mukesh Ambani-led RIL, which was 175 last year, grabbed the 134th spot this year. Other Indian companies in the list include BPCL, SBI, HPCL, Tata Motors, ONGC and Tata Steel. Except for SBI, which slipped by nine positions, all other Indian companies improved on their rankings.
