Guwahati Refinery observes IndianOil Day

The 47th IndianOil Day was celebrated at Guwahati Refinery on September 1, 2011.

On the occasion, Dr Satyendra Kumar Choudhury, Director of Assam Science, Technology & Environment Council and Director of Assam Energy Development Agency, called upon all employees of Guwahati Refinery to be proud of the achievements of IndianOil over the last many decades.

The event took off at the refinery plant canteen in the morning hours in the presence of the refinery employees and retired employees of the refinery.

The day marks the formation of Indian Oil Corporation Limited on September 1, 1964, with the merger of Indian Refineries Ltd and Indian Oil Company Ltd.

G Bhanumurthy, executive director, Guwahati Refinery, in his address, spoke about IndianOil’s journey from the early days to the present times when its business strategy includes the entire hydrocarbon value chain through integration and diversification initiatives making it the “Energy of India”. He also spoke about Guwahati Refinery’s contribution to the parent company, IndianOil, and its achievements.

Chief guest Dr Satyendra Kumar Choudhury lauded the initiatives taken by IndianOil in the area of renewable energy and also congratulated all employees of Guwahati Refinery for the environment management systems, TPM initiatives leading to improvement in work culture and the initiatives on solar energy systems. He threw light on the initiatives of the Assam Energy Development Agency in providing solar energy in about 700 remote villages of Assam. Dr Choudhury expressed hope that the Guwahati Refinery would further associate with the Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council for projects on solar energy in the Refinery and its township.

Several retired employees of Guwahati Refinery over the age of 75 years were feted on the occasion.

In the morning, the foundation stone of a gallery at the Sector-II playground was laid by G Bhanumurthy.
