Bongaigaon Refinery celebrates ‘IndianOil Day’

Bongaigaon Refinery of IndianOil celebrated the IndianOil Day on September 1, 2011 with pride and enthusiasm, according to a press release. A Saran, Executive Director inaugurated the celebration by lighting the ceremonial lamp in an “Inaugural Function and Employees’ Meet” held at RCCC, in the presence of a huge gathering of employees and invited guests. The programme began with playing of the IndianOil Corporate song followed by the employees collectively taking the IndianOil Pledge. The IndianOil Day messages from the Chairman and Director (Refineries) of IOCL were also read out. Earlier, N Kumar, GM (HR) welcomed the august gathering and explained the significance of the occasion.

Addressing the gathering Saran conveyed his heartiest greetings and best wishes to each and everyone who are or were part of IndianOil. Highlighting the glorious journey of IndianOil, Saran said that IndianOil was born out of the vision of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, to pursue a policy of self-sufficiency in the petroleum sector as a strategic requirement of a free nation. The integrated refining and marketing entity, IndianOil, has since grown into the country’s largest commercial enterprise and India’s No. 1 company. Today, IndianOil is the 18th largest petroleum company in the world and is ranked 98th amongst the world’s largest corporations in terms of sale turnover by ‘Fortune 500’ and is also one of the five companies selected by the Government of India for ‘Maharatna’ status. Ramen Sarma, vice-president, BGR Officers’ Association and M Iswary, president, BGR Employees’ Union also shared their views.

In a ‘Long Service Award Function’ held on the occasion, 120 employees were felicitated for completing 35 years and 30 years of service in the corporation. A Dealers/Customers Meet was held with participation from various organizations. A “Facilitation Programme for Retired Employees” was organized in which a good number of retired employees put up their grievances and obtained clarifications from the concerned functionaries. A colourful cultural function was also organized in the evening. Moreover, as a part of the celebrations, a health camp was organized in a nearby village and the poor and needy villagers were provided with free health check-up, medical advice and medicines.
