Bongaigaon Refinery celebrates Hindi Fortnight

Bongaigaon Refinery celebrated the Hindi Fortnight from September 1 to 14, 2011 with enthusiasm, according to a press release. A host of activities were carried out during the fortnight to augment employees’ interest towards effective use of the official language Hindi in official works.

The Hindi Divas was celebrated on September 14, 2011. HC Vishwakarma, General Manager (TS) & I/C BGR Unit inaugurated the programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp along with MK Sinha, GM (Projects), SB Kakoti, GM (M&C), BK Das, GM (Technical), AR Babuji, GM (HSE) and N Kumar, GM (HR). Messages from P Chidambaram, Home Minister, RPN Singh, Minister of State, Petroleum & Natural Gas and RK Ghosh, Director (Refineries), IOCL were read out.

Delivering his presidential address, HC Vishwakarma said that “our national language Hindi is an invaluable asset for us that we have inherited from our ancestors. It is our constitutional responsibility to establish and highlight it at the international level with pride. Our dream to stand in the row of the developed countries can turn into reality only when we love our own language, use it and emboss it on the life-style itself.’

He also called upon all to work with dedication for achieving further excellence in complying with the constitutional provisions of the Official Language Policy of the Government. Earlier, welcoming the gathering, N Kumar, GM (HR) greeted all on the occasion. Dr Yajvrat, Senior Manager (A&W) highlighted the significance of the occasion and presented a report on the progress of Official Language Implementation in BGR.

The fortnight-long celebrations included Hindi essay writing competition, Hindi noting/drafting competition, official terminology competition and quiz competition separately for the Hindi speaking and non-Hindi speaking employees. Running shields were awarded to the departments showing commendable performance in the area of official language implementation. The Technical Services Department bagged the ‘Best Department Running Shield’ while the Projects Department got the ‘Runner up Department Running Shield’. Cash incentives were awarded to the employees who passed various Hindi examinations conducted by the Government of India. 29 students of DPS Dhaligaon, Kendriya Vidyalaya, New Bongaigaon and Little Flower School were awarded cash incentive for achieving A1 Grade in the class X examination of CBSE at Bongaigaon level.
