Guwahati Refinery golden jubilee from Jan 1

Guwahati Refinery, the first public sector refinery of the country, is celebrating its golden jubilee with a month-long programme from January 1, 2012. The refinery was dedicated to the nation by the then Prime Minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru on January 1, 1962.

The Refinery in a press release here said that the celebration would include several activities and programmes for the employees, retired employees, the pioneers and the family members of all these people, stakeholders and the community. On the occasion, a 'Special Day Cover' has been planned to be released with the help of the India Post on January 1.

The celebration would kick-off with a Retired Employees' Meet on January 1, which would be attended by the pioneers of the Refinery, who were involved with the construction and commissioning of the Refinery. The other retired employees and the serving employees of the Refinery would also take part in the programme, said the press release.

The Refinery, since its commissioning, has been meeting the fuel needs of the people of the NE region and contributing also to the development of the community around it. Under its Corporate Social Responsibility, the Refinery focuses its activities on three broad areas of health care, supply of clean drinking water and education to the people living around it.
