IndianOil slam Army Green
New Delhi   23-Apr-2012

IndianOil inflicted a crushing 7-0 defeat on Army Green in the KSHA Ozone Group National League hockey championship at the KSHA stadium on Saturday.

Captain Deepak Thakur led from the front with two goals (5th, 6th) while Imran Khan (21st), Gurjinder Singh (45th), Prabhjot Singh (49th), Vikramkanth (52nd) and Boney Marshal (64th) struck one goal apiece.

Two brilliant strikes from Thakur inside the first six minutes saw the Oilmen going 2-0 ahead. Army Green then kept a tight defense for the next fifteen minutes. But despite Armymen’s best efforts, IndiaOil stretched the lead through Imran, who slotted home a cross from Prabhjot. Despite several attacking forays from IndianOil, they failed to score in the remaining minutes of the first-half. Deepak, Prabhjot, Roshan Minz and Imran combined nicely and came closer to scoring but failed to convert their chances. Army Green too had their opportunities with Leejohn Singh and Anup Topno but the duo were denied by an alert IndianOil custodian Devesh Chauhan. Ten minutes upon resumption, Gurjinder joined the party, converting a penalty corner to make it 4-0 in favour of IndianOil while Prabhjot got into the scoresheet with a powerful shot from the left in the 49th minute.

Vikramkanth’s tap-in off a Gurjinder pass made it 6-0 before Boney latched onto a Prabhjot cross from the left to hit the seventh goal to complete the rout.
