New Delhi   03-Jul-2012

Eight labourers working in the Paradip-based IndianOil Refinery were injured on Monday morning when CISF personnel fired at them for trying to forcibly enter the project site.

Jagatsinghpur Additional SP Bijay Sahu said the labourers were going to the project site at Abhaychandpur through the gate number 4, when the CISF personnel guarding that gate asked them to enter through gate number 1 using their passes. A scuffle ensued when the labourers tried to force their way through gate number 4. Soon hundreds of labourers and plant site employees converged at the gate and attacked the CISF control room.

The CISF jawans then opened fire at the labourers, some of whom received bullet injuries on their lower limbs.

A labourer who was shot in the chest was referred to SCB Medical college and hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

IndianOil’s refinery in Paradip is a 15-million tonne refinery, where 5.97 million tonnes of diesel, 3.4 million tonnes of petrol, 1.45 million tonnes of kerosene/ATF, 5,36,000 tonnes of LPG, 1,24,000 tonnes of naphtha and 3,35,000 tonnes of sulphur would be produced annually. All the produce from the refinery would be sold in the domestic market.
