Minister visits site of fire at Hazira

The Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Veerappa Moily, visited the site of the fire incident at IndianOil’s Hazira Terminal this noon to take stock of the situation. R.S. Butola, Chairman, lndianOil; M Nene, Director (Marketing), Jayprakash Shivhare, District Collector, Surat;and Sudhir Vasudeva, CMD, ONGC; were present. The fire broke out in the motor spirit (MS) tank of IndianOil's bulk storage terminal and was fully contained. The Minister announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh each from IndianOil for the families of the two deceased, both welders employed by on of the contractors, in the fire. IndianOil is likely to suffer a toss of Rs. 35 crore on the product and Rs 10 crore on account of damage to infrastructure.
