Chemical engineering department of Gujarat state team up with IndianOil in building capabilities for hydrocarbon sector

In an effort to enhance and strengthen industry Academia Interface, the Petroleum Federation of India in association with Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust organised a three-day workshop at IndianOil's Gujarat Refinery from 28th -30th May on "Simulation and Modeling in Process Industry". The group of 25 participants was Professors from renowned engineering colleges like while the faculties were Industry experts from IndianOil Refineries and Honeywell Automation. This workshop was first of its kind in Hydrocarbon sector. Welcoming the delegates and dignitaries on the first day, U K Basu, ED (l/c) Gujarat Refinery appreciated the initiatives taken by Petrofed in organizing this important workshop at a time when energy policy makers are discussing the possibility of India {emerging as a major refining hub land a low cost supplier of petroleum products to the world. Elaborating on the results of a study undertaken by Petrofed in 2006 on "Talent Management in Hydrocarbon sector", Arora said that next 10 years would witness an acute shortfall of skilled, manpower in oil & gas industry worldwide. He suggested that big players like IndianOil's Gujarat Refinery should initiate "Academia Industry Council" in association with state universities like MS University, Vadodara to deliberate upon future requirements and advise government authorities about how to meet those requirements.
