Digboi Refinery hosts Industry-Academia Workshop under the aegis of PETROFED

Digboi Refinery hosted an Industry-Academia Workshop on “Instrumentation & Control”, jointly organised by Petroleum Federation of India (PETROFED), Lovraj Kumar Memorial Trust and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Assam Oil Division), Digboi Refinery.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Amitabh Misra, GM (T) in presence of Mr. S.S. Ramgarhia, Dir (Policy & Planning), Petrofed, Mr. Biren Das, Joint Director (U/S), Petrofed, Mr. Praveen Choudhry, GM (F), Mr. H.L. Arya, GM (HSE) and other senior officials of IndianOil Assam Oil Division.

Mr. Misra explained the need to increase industry-acamia interactions during his inaugural address and offered to assist the institutes through deputation of refinery professionals for interaction with students. Mr. Ramgarhia in his address stressed upon the need of the academicians to be acquainted with industry requirements for imparting the same to their students.

The two days workshop aimed at sharing of experience by Oil & Gas industry professionals on Instrumentation & Control with teaching faculties of various academic institutions to update their knowledge for imparting it to students. The event witnessed an encouraging participation from 22 academicians, Professors and Astt. Professors from NITs of Meghalaya, Silchar, Agartala, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Jorhat Engineering College, Jorhat Institute of Science & Technology, Gauhati University, Tezpur University & Dibrugarh University.

Four speakers from Yokogawa India Limited, one each speaker from Honeywell Automation India Limited, Digboi, Haldia & Guwahati refineries shared their experiences in various topics concerning Instrumentation & Control. The workshop commenced with the session ‘Principles of Process Control’ by Mr. V. S. Jain, ITM, GR followed by topic on ‘Controller Tuning’ by Mr. P. K. Goswami, CITM, DR and subsequently the Yokogawa professionals, led by Ms. Mahalxmi, Mr. R. R. Bhuyan, Mr. Mohmd. Ummer & Mr. Sukanta Das covered topics on ‘Wireless Communication’ & ‘Training needs of Instrument Professionals’. A session on ‘Overview of Latest Trends in DCS’ was conducted next day by Mr. Tapan Mondal, DITM, HR and Mr. Supriya Sarkar of HAIL.  Few case studies of refinery instrumentation & control were also shared with the participants.

The workshop ended with a visit to the Digboi Centenary Museum followed by refinery visit to TPM Gallery, Wax Slabbing Unit, Skill Development Centre & few process control rooms. All the participants & Petrofed officials expressed their satisfaction on overall arrangement of the workshop.
