IndianOil, ONGC among top 50 energy firms

Reliance Industries, ONGC and IndianOil are among seven Indian companies that figure in the list of the world's 250 top performing energy firms.Reliance and ONGC rank 23 and 29 respectively in the annual ranking of Platts Top 250 Global Energy. ONGC has also been named as the third best performing energy company in Asia. IndianOil is ranked at 52. The ranking is published every year by Platts, a division of The McG raw-Hill Companies and a global energy and metals information provider.Global oil and gas leaders have consolidated their energy businesses with the ranking led by Texas-based- Exxon Mobil Corp, followed by' the UK's BP Plc and Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Platts said. The other Indian companies are National Thermal Power Corporation (ranked 103), Gas Authority of India Limited (135), Bharat Petroleum Corp (203) and Hindustan Petroleum Corp (233).According to Platts, China and India dominate the sector leadership position. While ONGC is the top Asian firm in exploration and production, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries has topped the refining and marketing list and NTPC has emerged as the top player in the independent power producers category. Seven Chinese companies also figure in the list. But only Petrochina makes it to the top 50. There were eight Indian companies in the list last year. Neyveli Lignite Corporation, which was ranked 227 in 2006, does not find a place this time.GAIL Has improved its ranking from 156 last year to 135. However, RDL, ONGC, IndianOil, NTPC-BPCL and HPCL, have alt moved down. The ranking scores the world's performing energy companies on a combination of assets, revenues, profits and return on invested capital. All ranking companies have assets more than two billion dollars and are publicly listed.
