IndianOil refineries achieved a record crude throughput of 49.16 MMT during the year 2008-09, registering a growth of 3.7 % in crude processing over the previous fiscal. This was disclosed by Director (Refineries) B N Bankapur. The Refineries Division thus garnered a capacity utilization of more than 103% and also achieved the highest ever combined distillate yield of 74.6 wt% surpassing the previous best of 73.7 wt% in 2007-08. The refineries were also successful in their efforts towards effective energy conservation by reducing the overall specific energy consumption from the previous best of 67 MBN achieved in 2007-08 to 64 MBN. As a rare feat, all IndianOil refineries achieved lowest ever-specific energy consumption during the year, said Bankapur. The year also saw Haldia and Digboi refineries of IndianOil registering Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects with UNFCCC, reiterating IndianOil’s commitment towards continuing its operations in complete harmony with the environment. This feat is a first for any refiner in the country. IndianOil also became the first refiner in the country to achieve an international recognition in the field of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as two of its refineries in Barauni and Panipat won the Excellence Award awarded by Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM).
