Indian Oil marching ahead
Guwahati   02-Jul-2009
After India's independence on August 15,1947, the Government of India decided to develop public sector enterprises like coal, steel, petroleum etc as a result of which the oil refining entity - Indian Refineries limited and oil marketing entity - Indian Oil Company were established on August 22,1958 and june 20,1959 respectively. Subsequently on September 1, 1964, Indian Oil Company was renamed as Indian Oil Corporation Limited after its merger with Indian Refineries Limited. Five decades ago, not many could visualise the pivotal role the corporation would come to play in the nation's growth and development in the years to come. In fact the multinational oil companies operating in India at that time monopolised this business giving little chance to the corporation to survive. However, the IndianOil people resolutely set themselves to the task of serving a growing nation overcoming many challenges that came in their way. Today, IndianOil is proud to be the country's largest commercial enterprise with a significant position on the petroleum map of the world. It is the ceaseless efforts of several generations of the IndianOil people that has placed the corporation firmly among the world's largest corporates with the distinction of 18th largest petroleum company in the world. Setup with a clear mandate of achieving self sufficiency in petroleum refining, pipeline transportation and marketing operations for a nascent nation set on the path of economic growth and prosperity, IndianOil accounts for nearly half of India's petroleum consumption today. The corporation's biggest achievement during these fifty years is that by and large today, there is no place in our country where IndianOil's products and services do not reach the customers. This is IndianOil today silently serving the nation of over a billion population - touching the lives of millions everyday and care and enthuses them to give their best. <b>IndianOil's growth from outside as proud IOCians</b> We as ex-IndianOil colleagues are watching and as members of the pioneering generation, we are proud of IndianOil, which has grown into a big family today. IndianOil never says 'Good bye' to its retirees. This is because there is a distinct IndianOil culture that keeps the IndianOil family bonded with affection. As a leading public sector enterprise of the country, IndianOil has successfully combined its corporate social responsibility agenda with its business offerings. On the welfare front, IndianOil is committed to extend help and cooperation in various socio-economic development activities in the neighbouring poor communities including their education, healthcare etc. Living at Guwahati, we have seen today a great change in all round development of this city and its suburbs after establishment of the first public sector oil refinery at Noonmati about five decades ago. Besides infrastructure development of the area, there have been increased avenues of labour employment, growth of ancillary industries etc. in and around Guwahati City, IndianOil has stood by the nation in times of trials and tribulations besides extending various relief, rescue and rehabilation services as needed from time to time in the past, IndianOil is felicitating all senior retired members who have attained 75 years of age in recognition of their great contribution in building this mighty organisation. In the face of innumerable hurdles, it was the crusading zeal of the early pioneers that was responsibie for putting IndianOil on a firm footing. The post retired medical care (PRMAS) and other socio-economic welfare measures adopted by IndianOil as goodwill gesture towards its ex-colleagues are really praiseworthy. Today IndianOil is poised to soar into new horizons steadily climbing the success exploring new and exciting vistas of growth, but it never, forgets in its upward journey to look back to gain confidence and inspiration from its early leaders and their past achievements to carry forward the great legacy of rendering tire1 less service to the nation. We look at IndianOil as skylark of the East who in poetic language symbolises: <i>"Type of the wise who soar but never roam...True to the kindred points of heaven and home!"</i>
