Digboi rejoices over IndianOil's 50th anniversary

The thrilling yet stately and dignified inaugural function held on the morning of July 2 last in the Golden Jubilee Complex with Subroto Ghosh, Executive Director of Assam Oil Division of IndianOil, at Digboi, on the centre stage gave a perfect expression to the excitement and expectations of the entire family of Assam Oil employees and officers and the civil population of the township as well. The drizzles could not dampen the gay spirit visible on every face. The chief guest, Professor Karabi Deka Hazarika of Dibrugarh University, a noted poet and literature was led into the jam-packed auditorium by a traditional troupe of Gayan Bayan. Haseem Ahmed, very confident and effective presenter, initiated the proceedings. PC Sonowal – DGM (HR), Sanjay Bordoloi – GM (Technical), Tarun Hazarika – president of AOC Labour Union and KC Dutta – Secretary of Officers’ Association were also on the dais. The curtain raiser began deferentially with Ghosh coming down to the floor of the auditorium and according felicitation to some of its very senior retired employees, retired officers, old time dealers and entrepreneurs. The next item was the oath taking by all the officers and the employees in Assamese, English and Hindi by way of affirming their individual commitment to achieve the ‘Corporate Vision’ of IndianOil and unflinching loyalty to the country. Messages from the President, Vice-president, Finance minister and Petroleum Minister of Indian Union were read out to the audience. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, President of India, in her message noted that building on the strength of its human resource, IndianOil had since its establishment achieved phenomenal growth to reach the caveated position of the country’s largest commercial enterprise and the 18th largest petroleum company in the world. Prof Deka Hazarika under authority of delegation made by the VC of Dibrugarh University delivered the prepared speech of the chief guest, which also underlined the vision, and dynamism of the top leadership and the passion, zeal and hard work of the employees as the key factors behind the success story of IndianOil. Subroto Ghosh, the executive director, in his address recalled the glorious output of the entire saga of IndianOil, gave a brief outline of its various welfare and CSR projects and looked forward to massive participation by the employees and the officers and their family members in the two-month-long events of the golden jubilee celebrations so as to make the event go down the annals of IndianOil in letters of gold. Tarun Hazarika, president of AOC Labour Union and KC Dutta, secretary of Officers’ Association, also spoke on the occasion. In the afternoon a total of 110 competitors participated in the preliminary round of the grand IndianOil Idol music competition and delighted the audience. The evening regaled a mammoth gathering in the Golden Jubilee Complex auditorium with a choice bouquet of music, dance and a farcical playlet. The executive director Ghosh made the auspicious beginning of the evening’s programme by lighting the traditional earthen lamp. While unfolding the length and breadth of the story of growth and development, merger and expansion of IndianOil, he asserted in his speech that the big family of Assam Oil workforce had reasons to feel even more proud by their being the first generation of Oil men in the country. Biswajit Rudra, the renowned musical artiste from Kolkata, was the chief attraction of the evening.
