IndianOil, SAIL chiefs bag govt awards

PM Manmohan Singh on Thursday conferred IndianOil Chairman Mr. Sarthak Behuria and Mr. S. K. Roongta, Head of steelmaker SAIL, the Scope Awards for contribution to the growth of public sector and its management in their respective categories. Mr. Behuria won the award in the individual category for 2006-07 on account of excellence and outstanding contribution to PSU management. Mr. Behuria's stewardship through the turbulent times of the oil spike won him the award. "As chairman of IndianOil since March 2005, Mr. Behuria has been transforming the flagship national oil company in the downstream petroleum sector into a diversified, transnational integrated energy major,'' a company statement said. Mr. Roongta also got the award in the individual category. He also received the Gold Trophy of SCOPE Award for Excellence and Outstanding Contribution to Public Sector Management in the institutional category for 2006-07 and two MoU Excellence Awards for 2007-08, a company release said. The SCOPE Awards have been instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises, the apex body of public enterprises in India, to recognise the contribution of public enterprises and to encourage outstanding personalities for their exemplary work and leadership qualities.
