Digboi Rongali Bihu samity organizes marathon race

The Digboi Rongali Bihu Utsav Palan Samity, 2010, organized an "All Assam prize money mini marathon race" recently as a part of its 56th year of celebration of Rongali Bihu at Digboi. The programme was organized in view of promoting a sense of fraternity among all and spread the noble message of peace and harmony in the society.

Digboi IOC (AOD) Chief Finance Manager Surajit Goswami flagged off the marathon race competition, which started from Muliabari Bihutoli Area. Saket Ali from Guwahati stood first and Manchid Orea from Kharjan Digboi stood second in the marathon which covered a distance of 24 km (from Makum to Bihutoli Muliabari) while Rudreswar Deka and Nityananda Deka, both of Dareng, and Debojit Khalko of Dibrugarh occupied the third, fourth and fifth position respectively in the male group.

On the other hand, Rikhimoni Urang of Dibrugarh and Bal Mobina Hanuman of Moranhat took away the first and second prizes covering the distance of 14 km (from Tingai Railway Station to Bihutoli Muliabari) in 60 and 63 minutes respectively in the female group and Lakhi Tirga of Dibrugarh was third in the row.

Altogether, 65 participants from different nooks and corner of Assam took part in the race. Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners during the prize distribution ceremony held subsequently.

Surajit Goswami, Digboi Rongali Bihu Utsav Palan Samity 2010 president Dr Lakhinath Mohan and working president Abu Hussain and dignitaries attended the prize-distribution ceremony from various walks of life along with the general public. Coinciding the event, the committee had also organized a drawing competition for children of various age groups, which were around 250 in numbers.
