Awareness programme organized

An awareness programme on self-help group was organized by Digboi Unnayan Samity at India Club, Digboi recently. The skill development and employment oriented programme was presided over by Kamalesh Chakraborty, the president of Digboi Unnayan Samity, along with other dignitaries on the dais which included Tarun Chandra Sarmah, the Chief Administrative Manager (CAM) IOC (AOD) Digboi, Tajuddin Hussain, the In-charge of State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) Guwahati, Bhupen Chandra Sarmah, the Director of Khadi and Village Industrial Development (KVID) Guwahati and Jiten Dutta, the general secretary of Digboi Unnayan Samity. Speaking on the occasion Kamalesh Chakraborty, the president of the programme urged upon the unemployed local youths to avail various schemes being implemented by the Government of Assam in various sectors including Agriculture. According to him, unemployment is the root cause of almost all evils in the society which is compounding at an alarming speed and once the unemployed youths realize, come forward, express and exhibit their skills in developing entrepreneurship through various schemes of the government it could go a long way in solving not only the problem of unemployment but also other associated evils of the society in particular of the rural sectors. Tajuddin Hussain, the In-charge of SIRD Guwahati and Bhupen Chandra Sarmah, the Director of KVID Guwahati acted as a resource person who beside laying emphasis on the need of creating awareness among the unemployed youths, of the various socio economic avenues of the government, also narrated the technical know-how of the various schemes and assured to extend all possible help to promote entrepreneurship particularly in the agricultural sector. The In-charge of SIRD Guwahati also assured to promote 10 groups immediately, each group consisting of four to five members of different families of the locality. Tarun Chandra Sarmah, the (CAM) IOC (AOD) Digboi appreciated highly of such employment oriented programme for the local youths and expressed his willingness to help and cooperate in the noble cause of utilizing and canalizing the skills and energy of the youths in the right direction for the interest of the society. Jiten Dutta, the general secretary of Digboi Unnayan Samity also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the gatherings to go for poultries, fisheries, piggery, duckery, weaving, etc. which generates handsome profits and be economically independent to stand on their own feet. Diganta Saikia, the adviser of the Samity told The Sentinel that the Digboi Unnayan Samity has been conducting such programmes with the sole objective of developing socio economic framework of the society thereby absorbing the local unemployed youths resolving as far as possible, the problem of unemployment in the locality through various self-help employment generation schemes of the government. He further told that unless the people are made aware of such schemes of the government, the efforts of the government and objectives of the schemes should not materialize. Addressing the people at the programme in his vote of thanks he said that creating awareness among the people is the means to achieve the end whatever may be the avenues, opportunity or the schemes. Altogether more than one thousand people of different pockets of Digboi attended the programme enthusiastically who had expressed their willingness to avail the platform immediately after the programme.
