IOC ‘blocks' 250 domestic LPG connections

Following intensive raids conducted to detect misuse of domestic LPG cylinders, the IndianOil (IOC) has suspended 250 domestic connections in Madurai city alone during the past few weeks.

Their connections have already been "blocked" and they would not be given refill cylinders as these domestic consumers were found to be selling the cylinders for commercial purpose.

"This is a major action taken by our IOC Madurai Area Office and no one will be spared if they misuse the domestic Indane Gas cylinders," D. Murali, Senior Area Manager, IOC, told The Hinduhere on Wednesday. Raids were conducted at different places in Madurai city during the month of June and 161 domestic cylinders which were being used for commercial use were also seized. With the help of Food Cell authorities, the IOC had carried out raids in Vaigai North area and places near Aarapalayam Bus Stand, besides Sellur locality. Raids were also conducted at illegal filling stations.

The domestic consumers who were found to be misusing the gas cylinders have been asked to surrender their connections. According to N. R. Ganesh, Manager (LPG), the places where lot of cases are being detected include Sellur, Goripalayam, Jaihindpuram, Arasaradi, Thathaneri, K.Pudur and Mattuthavani.

IOC Madurai Area Office covers 10 southern districts and periodical raids are being conducted based on tip-off.
