BS III Fuels from Sept 15 Midnight in Kerala

Petrol and Diesel, being supplied by Public sector Oil Companies in Kerala will be of BS III standard from midnight of Wednesday. BS III Grade Fuels were the specific quality products in order to meet the stringent BS III Auto emission standards, an IndianOil (IOC) press release said.

Kerala was being supplied BS II Grade Fuels since April 2005 and prior to that the Fuel Grades were under 'unclassified category' with respect to Pollution Control Norms.

As per BS III standards, Octane Number of Petrol has been improved to 91 from 88 and that of Cetane Number of Diesel from 48 to 51. Another speciality of the new fuel was considerable reduction in Sulphur and Benzene present in the fuels, the release said.BS III Petrol and Diesel not only reduces exhaust emission from vehicles but also improves the power and efficiency of vehicle engines.

Customers in the State will have to pay 29 paise per litre more for petrol and 23 paise per litre more for Diesel from the existing rate.
