Oil tanker derailment disrupts train services

Train services between Chennai and Kerala through Coimbatore were disrupted after four crude oil ladden tankers derailed at nearby Irugur today.

The derailment occurred on the yardline of IndianOil when the tankers were being taken from the main track. The tankers fell on electric traction post, leading to snapping of electricity on main line and disruption of traffic, railway sources said.

Several trains suffered delay ranging from one hour to three hours due to the derailment. A restoration team from Erode carried out the repair, they said.

Chennai-Coimbatrore Kovai Express in both directions, Alleppey Dhanbad Express, Ernakulam-Bangalore Intercity Express, Rapthi Sagar Express, Mangalore-Chennai Egmore express, Kongu-Nizamuddin Express and Thiruvananthapuram-Hydereabad Sabari express were delayed due to the mishap.
