Refinery staff pledge to uphold work ethics

In line with observance all over the country, Vigilance Awareness period took off at Guwahati Refinery ceremoniously on October 25, a press release said.

G Bhanumurthy, Executive Director addressed a gathering of employees stressing on the importance of work life ethics and values to maintain discipline in workplace. As PSUs have an obligation towards socio-economic development of the country along-with fulfilling business goals, it was imperative that focused attention be made to vigilance administration in such organizations. Bhanumurthy also urged upon all employees to sincerely follow ethical practices and uphold values of honesty and integrity in their personal and work lives.

Messages received from eminent personalities like President of India, Prime Minister, Chief Vigilance Commission, Chairman of IndianOil and Chief Vigilance Officer, IndianOil were read out on the occasion by senior management officials of Guwahati Refinery. The Vigilance Awareness Pledge was administered in Assamese, Hindi and English and taken by all employees present in the function.

A week-long programme consisting of quiz and debate competitions, vigilance awareness workshop for employees, meeting with vendors, contractors, etc. to discuss important issues pertaining to business and financial transactions were held at Guwahati Refinery during this Vigilance Awareness Period from October 25 to November 1 in order to increase awareness and consciousness on vigilance management amongst employees, stakeholders and citizens in and around Guwahati Refinery. Employees of North East Integrated State Office of IndianOil from various locations also participated in slogan and quiz competitions on the theme.

In a valedictory function to mark the conclusion of the period, Dr NK Choudhury, retired Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University was the Chief Guest, who spoke in detail about the concept of vigilance which has a rather wide connotation and includes security, personal relationship, etc. and is not confined to corruption alone. Dr Choudhury urged the IndianOil employees present in the function to generate awareness amongst people and try to influence the mindset of the young as well as general people on having integrity and being honest in their dealings with others in life.

BP Das, General Manager (Technical), Guwahati Refinery also spoke on the occasion and reiterated that in organisations while doing any job which had financial implications, people should give due diligence to systems and procedures and always develop or imbibe qualities of restraint, honesty and even spirituality of the mind. Prizes to the winners of the various competitions held during the period were given away in this function.
