Vigilance Awareness Period observed at Bongaigaon Refinery

Bongaigaon Refinery of IndianOil observed the ‘Vigilance Awareness Period’ from October 25 to November 1 with great enthusiasm, a press release stated.

The period began with the employees of the refinery taking pledge to continuously strive for bringing about integrity and transparency in all spheres of their activities and eradication of corruption in all spheres of life. In a function held on the occasion, messages from the President of India, the Vice President of India, the Prime Minister of India, Central Vigilance Commission, Chairman and CVO, IOCL were read out.

A Saran, executive director administered the vigilance awareness pledge in English while HC Vishwakarma, general manager (T/S) and SB Kakoti, general manager (M&C) administered the same in Hindi and Assamese respectively.

The agenda of the weeklong Vigilance Awareness Period included speech competitions amongst students of nearby schools and colleges on the topic ‘Role of individual in controlling corruption’; distribution of leaflets amongst employees and general public; essay competition amongst employees on the topic ‘ Effectiveness of RTI Act in controlling Corruption’; quiz competition amongst employees; speech competition amongst employees on the topic ‘ Role of Whistle Blowers in controlling corruption’ besides a seminar on the topic ‘ Anti- corruption Measures’ and a concluding function.

HC Vishwakarma, GM (TS) chaired the seminar while Mr. NC Barua, District & Sessions Judge (Retd) and Mr. DJ Mukherjee, advocate graced the seminar as appointed speakers. Presenting his paper, Mr Baruah said that for ushering in a society free from corruption, stringent measures must be taken in all spheres of life by all the people. Mr. Mukherjee said that eradication of corruption requires cooperation from each individual, every institution and all governing bodies right from the grass root level to the elite class.

Delivering his concluding remarks, Mr Vishwakarma stated that in today’s globalised world, transparency in all business transactions is the key to success. The ultimate objective of vigilance is to prevent leaks and thus help in the overall growth of an organization. It is the employees of each unit who are the best vigilance persons because they are responsible for whatever happens there and are in the best position to control the activities so that nothing untoward happens.

Earlier, Mr. M Chinnakkan, DGM (Vigilance) welcomed the gathering and narrated a report on the observance of Vigilance Awareness Period 2010 in Bongaigaon Refinery.
