Man killed for Rs 150
New Delhi   08-Dec-2010

The city is on a short fuse and Delhi residents found this the hard way on Saturday. A 32-year-old man was brutally killed for just Rs 150 at an IndianOil petrol pump in Janakpuri in west Delhi on Saturday morning.

Aneesh Ahmad, a petrol pump attendant, was run over because he asked a customer to pay for the extra petrol he had filled in the latter’s car.

A youth driving a black Alto car asked Ahmad, a Bulandshahr native, to fill petrol worth Rs 150 in his vehicle.

“Ahmed by mistake filled Rs 300 worth of petrol. The customer refused to pay the extra Rs 150. Ahmed admitted his mistake but insisted the driver pay the bill. He also told the driver that the company would deduct the money from his salary if he refused to pay,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

However, the driver refused and tried to leave but Ahmad came in front of his car to stop him. Instead of stopping, the driver ran over Ahmad who was crushed under the wheels.

The driver fled the spot after the incident. But even after sustaining severe injuries, Ahmad managed to note down the last four digits of the registration.

Other attendants at the petrol pump immediately rushed Ahmad to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he succumbed during treatment.

Initially, the police registered a case of accident but converted it into a murder case after the death of the victim. Ahmad was living in a rented accommodation in Nangloi.

According to police, only the last two digits noted down by the victim were correct and investigators had a tough time identifying the owner of the car.

Initially the police had picked up a journalist but he was released later because his movement in the area could not be verified and also because he was driving a Wagon R.

After checking several cars, the police finally identified the accused as Sunil Kamra, a resident of Uttam Nagar, who owns a black Maruti Alto.
