IndianOil presents ambulance to Deepsikha Cancer Care Foundation

A Pandian, GM; IndianOil, North East donating a Tata Winger high roof vehicle on behalf of IndianOil to Deepsikha Cancer Care Foundation

A Pandian, general manager of IndianOil, North East along with Debasish Sharma, Deputy Resident Commissioner, Assam Bhawan, Mumbai and chairman of Deepsikha Cancer Care Foundation flagged off an ambulance for the service of people in rural areas of Assam on December 23 at IndianOil's Sarpara LPG bottling plant near Mirza, a press release said.

In the inaugural speech, A Pandian expressed IndianOil's strong commitment in respect of corporate social responsibility towards the people of North East. Indian Oil has been supporting a wide range of socioeconomic initiatives such as clear drinking water, health and medical care and education with special orientation towards the weaker sections of the society. IndianOil's Director (Marketing), GC Daga handed over a cheque of Rs 7.50 lakh to Deepsikha on October 26 last during his visit to Guwahati. The vehicle was formally handed over to Deepsikha on December 23.

Deepsikha Cancer Care Foundation is a nonprofit voluntary organisation which has been working exclusively for the care of cancer patients of North Eastern region since the last five years. Care of cancer patients is confronted with myriad problems from the time cancer is diagnosed. By focusing on helping of people coming for cancer treatment, Deepsikha has provided assistance in everything such as finding a proper place of stay, the process of registration in the hospital, meeting respective doctors, procuring medicine, acquiring blood, getting financial assistance, arranging ambulance, helping with paperwork for the illiterates, etc.

Debasish Sharma said that since inception of Deepsikha, screening camps have been organised in different districts of Assam where more than 200 people have been screened. Deepsikha has provided assistance to all such cancer patients.

To better organise such screening camps in the most interior localities, IndianOil handed over the ambulance which would be the mobile screening unit. Deepsikha shall equip ultrasonography machine and endoscopes. After placement of these equipment, this mobile unit shall be an integrated unit for screening out the oral, nasopharyngeal, upper GI, breast and most abdominal malignancies. Deepsikha expressed its gratitude to the management of IndianOil for forwarding their support for the noble cause.
