IG summoned for probe slackness in IOC fire case
Jaipur   07-Jan-2011

The chief judicial magistrate (Jaipur city) has summoned inspector general of police N Morris Babu for alleged slackness in investigating the fire at the IndianOil (IOC) terminal-cum-depot at sitapura in October 2009.

The court had directed Babu to investigate the charges leveled through a complaint registered at the Bajaj Nagar police station in 2009. The investigation was earlier with the Bajaj Nagar police's station house officer (SHO) who gave a clean chit to the accused, including the then Jaipur East SP, Biju George Joseph, and the then Jaipur IGP, BL SONI.

Soni and Joseph were accused of going slow in registering the FIR against the key accused in the fire accident, thereby by allegedly allowing the conspirators to destroy evidence and flee.

The chief judicial magistrate has directed IG Babu to be present in the courtroom with the accident's case diary and the investigation progress report on January 21. In another incident, the regional forest officer of Jaipur filed chargesheets against six persons for illegally keeping elephants. The chargesheets too were filed in the same court. The accused, who are residents of the city, had allegedly brought the elephants from Uttar Pardesh without authorisation of forest officials.
