APDCL to buy power from Digboi Refinery

SC Das, CMD of Assam Power Distribution Co Ltd (APDCL) and S Ghosh, ED, AOD inked a significant agreement for sale and purchase of 5 MW of surplus electrical power from Digboi Refinery to the Digboi substation of APDCL, for distribution of power to the neighbouring areas of Digboi, thereby helping the APDCL to meet the shortage of peak time electrical power demand in the area.

The signing ceremony took place on February 13 and it was graced by Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, Minister of Power, Industry and Commerce, Pradyut Bordoloi and MLA of Digboi constituency, Rameswar Dhanowar.

Speaking on the occasion, Tarun Gogoi and Pradyut Bordoloi, appreciated this move made by Digboi Refinery of Indian Oil Corporation (Assam Oil Division), the prime mover. The Minister of Power gave an overview of the Power scenario in the state and the plans/reforms being undertaken by the State government for modernisation of the sector to overcome the perennial problem of power shortage.

The Chief Minister also congratulated both the parties for the efforts undertaken to come to this agreement, while Dhanowar, local MLA expressed his deep satisfaction and happiness over the signing of the agreement.

ED, AOD Subrato Ghosh expressed the hope that with this step the people of Digboi would benefit , since the ultimate objective of such an initiative was to do overall good of the people.

SC Das, CMD of APDCL assured all help and support from his organisation for proper utilisation of the power agreed to be transferred by IOCL (AOD) to it. SP Bordoloi, general manager (in charge) AOD presented the welcome address and traced the background leading to the agreement for the transfer of surplus power from Digboi Refinery captive power plant to the APDCL, which has the goodwill of all the concerned parties. The entire modalities for transfer of power from Digboi refinery and supply to the consumers by APDCL is expected to be completed by April 2011, before the Assamese new year, Rongali Bihu.
