IOC (AOD) organizes ‘Earth Walk’ at Digboi

Synchronizing with the World Environment Day to be observed across the globe on June 5, the Assam Oil Division of the IndianOil (IOC (AOD)), Digboi together with others from the various strata of the society recently conducted an ‘Earth Walk’ in the township at Digboi.

Keeping in view the theme of the World Environment Day, 2011 which is ‘Forests: Nature at your Service’ the IndianOil (Assam Oil Division) organized a procession called ‘Earth Walk’ along with the students’ community participating from various nook and corners of Digboi together with teachers, officials of IOCL (AOD) and the general public of Digboi.

The walk, with various environment-related banners, posters and pamphlets, aimed at generating environmental awareness among the masses. Speaking on the occasion, General Manager (Technical Services) Kaushik Bora and Senior Human Resources Manager Apurba K. Nath emphasized upon the need to conserve the natural resources maintaining a balance with ecology, thus sustaining human life on this unique planet.

Unnecessary human interference with the working of nature and act of cruelty upon forests and other resources should be effectively controlled and afforestation should be encouraged for a better tomorrow, they added.

In all, five schools including Carmel School, Delhi Public School, Nehru Children School, Vivekananda Academy and Shishu Niketan participating in the walk were selected for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th prizes respectively for discipline and effective and meaningful posters and writings based on the environment while the other participating schools will be given tokens of consolation prizes. The prizes shall be given away on June 6, 2011 at the ECO Park, Digboi at 10 am.
