IOC agrees to pay Rs 50,000 occupation charges to ZP
Nagpur   26-Aug-2011

IndianOil (IOC) has agreed to pay Rs 50,000 per month as occupation charges to Zilla Parishad (ZP) for use of the latter's land for petrol pump. "It is a great achievement for us as we have been successful in adding to ZP's earnings after fighting a legal battle for over 20 years,'' said Suresh Bhoyar, ZP chief and Nitin Rathi, Vice-President.

According to Rathi, IOC tendered a pursis through its counsel before the court and agreed to pay Rs 50,000 per month to ZP with effect from September 1, 2011. "Now, we are into the process of recovering charges for the past several years," Rathi told reporters on Thursday.

ZP had given its 10,000 sq metres land in front of Tehsil Office to IOC in 1969 for occupation charges of Rs 100 per month. The rent period expired in 1989 and ZP asked IOC to increase occupation charges.

"However, as IOC refused to either increase rent or vacate the land. It led to a legal battle between ZP and IOC. After over 20 years, now ZP has got justice. With the latest decision of the court, ZP will become financially stronger," Rathi said. Adv Manoj Sable represented ZP in the matter.
