IOC to set up bio-energy centre

IndianOil inked a memorandum of agreement with department of biotechnology (DBT), government of India, to set up a DBT-IOC Centre for Advanced Research on Bio-energy. The MoA was signed by Dr. R.K. Malhotra, director (R&D), of IndianOil and Dr. Renu Swarup, advisor, department of biotechnology, in the presence of secretary, DBT, Dr. M.K. Bhan and R.S. Butola, chairman of IOC, at a function held in New Delhi. Dr. Malhotra, director (R&D), IndianOil, emphasized the need for 2nd and 3rd generation bio fuels development. Dr. Tuli, GM, alternate energy of IndianOil, and Dr. Renu Swarup, advisor, DBT, also spoke on the occasion. The Advanced Bioenergy Research Centre is the second such centre being set up by DBT, the first was at Institute of Chemical Technology at Mumbai. This centre is coming up at IndianOil's R&D complex at Faridabad and will cost Rs 53 crores for five years of operation and DBT will share half of this cost.
