APMU stands for tank truck staff
Guwahati   09-Dec-2011

Protesting against the quantity of High Speed Diesel (HSD) transportation from Dimapur depot to Supply Cell, ONGC in Sivasagar and inclusion of more than nine numbers of tank trucks attached to Dimapur depot by the IndianOil (IOCL), the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU), Sivasagar branch has demanded the IOCL to maintain its loading ratio and withdraw all new attachment of tank trucks.

Addressing a Press meet at Hotel Brindavan on Thursday, Ranjan Chaudhury, Deputy General Secretary of APMU, central Committee said, “The IOCL in its letter issued on April 7 last has instructed all transporters based in Dimapur for diversion of tank trucks to Tinsukia terminal, where 68 tankers are available for transportation of HSD to Supply Cell, ONGC, Sivasagar, out of which 80 per cent HSD will be transported from Tinsukia terminal and 20 per cent from Dimapur depot. But it took a dramatic change from August when 80 per cent HSD transportation began from Dimapur depot to Supply Cell, ONGC, Sivasagar without the knowledge of APMU.”

“Since diverting the 80 per cent HSD supply to Dimapur depot, Assam based transporters are not getting more than one or two trips in a month which is not economically and financially viable,” said Chaudhury and further adding that the tank truck staffs are the worst sufferers. He also said, “The tank truck staffs are not only kept away from basic facilities at Dimapur depot, as the depot do not have any public utilities like urinal, bathroom, kitchen shed, rest-room and provision for purified drinking water, but they also do not get minimum security when they have to wait for loading at Dimapur depot for several days.”

The press meet was also attended by APMU, Sivasagar Branch’s president Dayananda Borah and secretary Inul Hussain.
