Digboi Refinery bags award for environmental campaign

The historic Digboi Refinery bagged the third prize in the category of environmental campaign at the 33rd All India Public Relations Society of India Awards held at Nagpur (Maharashtra) recently.

The Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) is the apex body of public relations professionals in India which initiates, recognizes and encourages performances and outstanding exhibition of talent and creativity in corporate communications.

Shivajirao Moghe, Minister of Social Justice, Government of Maharashtra, presented the prestigious award which was received by Sabeena Chowdhary, Deputy Manager (Corporate Communications), Assam Oil Division, in the presence of Richard Linning, President, International Public Relations Association, Dr Ajit Pathak, National President, PRS, top dignitaries and senior officials of various business organizations and Maharashtra State Government.

It may be added here that the environmental campaign entitled BLACK 2 GREEN was carried out few months back at Digboi with the aim of carbon offsetting.

Carbon footprint, which is a technique to measure impact of human activities on the environment in terms of amount of greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted, typically measured in units of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), was calculated on several big events.

A scientifically calculated numbers and species of trees were planted at Digboi to neutralize or offset the carbon footprint. Awareness campaigns to this effect were implemented through various internal media vehicles.

According to official reports, the IndianOil bagged a total of nine PRSI National Awards in the categories of special publication, electronic news bulletin, newsletter, annual reports and corporate social responsibility reports and event management.

The awards saw a stiff competition in which government, multinationals and private sector groups like ITC, ESSAR, TISCO, TELCO, KRIBHCO, IFFCO, EIL, SAIL, HNDALCO, HPCL, ONGC, OIL, Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, State Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, NTPC, Pepsi Co. Ltd., etc. contended for various awards.

The green lovers and conscious senior citizens of the Oil city Digboi congratulated and applauded the efforts of the IOC (AOD), Digboi for their contributions, commitments and untiring efforts to participate in the mission ‘green’.
