Prabhjot brace powers IndianOil

Former Indian striker Prabhjot Singh struck a brace as title contenders IndianOil crushed MEG ‘A’ 4-0 in the Ozone Group-KSHA National hockey league championship here on Tuesday.

Prabhjot opened the floodgates for IndianOil when he powered home in the 23rd minute as the title favourites went into halftime with a narrow 1-0 lead. Gurjinder then struck IndianOil’s second goal, sounding the board in the 52nd minute before former India player Deepak Thakur increased the lead in the 64th minute. Prabhjot then wrapped a comfortable win with a fine goal two minutes from time.

While IndianOil had it easy, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation battled to a 5-3 win over a dangerous Army Green. Arun Kumar put Army Green into a surprise lead, slotting home in the third minute. Lalith Upadya brought back ONGC on level terms within six minutes before Anup Topni stroked Army Green 2-1 ahead in the 21st minute.

ONGC, however, struck back with a fine three-minute spell. Mandeep Antil equalised on the half-hour mark while Diwakar Ram steered ONGC 3-2 ahead two minutes from the interval.

Upadya’s second strike in the 37th minute and Preetinder Singh’s 45th-minute goal wrapped up a fine come-from-behind win for OGNC with Deepak Kujur scoring a consolation goal for Army Green in the 61st minute.
