UPES: Nurturing energy through knowledge

At a glittering convocation of University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, Uttarakhand governor and visitor to the University Dr Aziz Qureshi awarded medals to meritorious students of UPES.

While presiding over the ceremony, Dr Qureshi said, “It is the first university of India which dedicated itself to the long-standing need of imparting industry-oriented education by offering domain specific and industry focussed courses. It also has the distinction of being the first university in Uttarakhand to have a 100Kw solar power plant and a bio-diesel generating plant on campus.”

Appreciating the efforts of the university, he added, “In the eight years, UPES has provided qualified, skilled manpower to the vital sectors of the Indian economy. This is proof of the quality of the education imparted here. The credit for this must go in equal measure to the dedicated faculty as to the hard work of the students.”

Dr Qureshi further said, “It gives me great satisfaction to know that as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, many projects have been undertaken by this university to help improve standards of living of the people in their neighbourhood through providing various socio-economic services like the adoption of the state government schools, health camps and blood donation camps. The university and its three colleges of management and economics studies, engineering and legal studies, is emerging as a leader in the energy sector.”

This was followed by the speech of guest of honour for the ceremony, Maha Navratana and Fortune 500 company, IndianOil’s Chairman R S Butola who said, “I must compliment the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies to have created this large skills ecosystem and having laid a very balanced yet diversified, a skills map on the inclusive education of students in various areas of energy and transportation.”
