Work at IndianOil oil refinery in Odisha hit

Work in the IndianOil's oil refinery project, near here, remained affected for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, with workers protesting against firing by CISF personnel on Monday.

"Work in the oil refinery has been affected since yesterday causing a loss of over Rs five crore per day," a senior company official said here.

The Director-General of CISF A K Ray had arrived in the port town in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha to inquire into the incident, Sangram Mishra, DGM, HR, of the IndianOil plant said.

On Monday, CISF personnel opened fire to prevent labourers from entering the oil refinery without valid passes that left seven persons injured.

To protest against the firing, members of five trade unions on Tuesday shouted slogans and blocked the main gate. As a result no one was able to enter the plant, the police said.

The Inspector-General of Police Arun Roy, who visited the spot, said two FIRs had been lodged separately by the CISF and labourers in Bijayachandrapur police station.

"An inquiry is on to ascertain how the incident happened and action will be taken against whoever is found guilty," Roy said.
