Adani, Shapoorji offer sites for IndianOil refinery

Flagship refiner-marketer IndianOil is in touch with Gujarat-based Adani and Mumbai-based Shapoorji Pallonji groups for land to set up a refinery on the west coast at an investment of Rs 30,000. Sources said the Adani group has offered land at Mundra region in Gujarat, where it is operating a port, and Shapoorji Pallonji group has offered a site in Saurashtra.

IndianOil director (refineries) Rajkumar Ghosh on Tuesday said the company was looking for sites for the new unit in Gujarat and Maharashtra. "We are looking at options to set up a 15 million tonne refinery on the west coast."

"We have commissioned Engineers India Ltd to do a configuration and location study for the west coast refinery," Ghosh said, adding the study is likely to come in by year-end after which the company will commission a detailed feasibility report.The west coast refinery is to come up by the 13th five year plan. Ghosh said IndianOil has plans to raise its refining capacity to 100 million tonnes by 2021-22.
