Assam Oil to celebrate silver jubilee
Guwahati   17-Aug-2007
The Assam Oil Division of IndianOil has chalked out a two-day programme to celebrate the silver jubilee of commencement of LPG marketing operations in the North East. According to functionaries of the silver jubilee celebration committee, the programme would be a recap of the journey made by Assam Oil, which had not always been a smooth sailing despite best efforts and intentions. :' "There have been, times when despite the best efforts, the LPG distribution system" was hit by shortages and deficiencies. But with untiring commitment and aided by the latest technology, Assam Oil has greatly improved its services to the customers," said Ashok Kumar Bishaya, president, silver jubilee celebration committee. Assam Oil will complete 25 years in LPG marketing on August 17, 2007. A public function will be held at ITA Pragjyoti auditorium on the day at 4 pm. About 90 customers who were amongst the first to be enrolled in 1982 as Assam Oil LPG consumers will be accorded a public felicitation. It needs mention here that LPG marketing in the North East has always been a tough job because of the terrain and prevalence of myths and superstitions. From the time when LPG cylinders were considered a novelty and people were reluctant to use it, to the present days when crisis of LPG cylinders has become a regular affair in citizens' lives, the changes have been remarkable both for the public as well as the suppliers." At one particular point of time, the people were reluctant to use the cooking fuel as they considered it to be risky and unsafe. There has been sea-change now with LPG cylinders being a ubiquitous sight as it has now turned out to be the most favoured and economic cooking fuel," said Bishaya, adding that the LPG distribution system has contributed to the preservation of the environment and in promoting a eco-friendly fuel thereby saving huge forest resources like firewood and coal.
