Advancement of women, gender equality and women’s empowerment are not mere buzz words; rather countries and communities have realised the importance of the same to a great extent.” He remarked, “Since the celebration of the first International Women's Day in 1911, the International Women’s Day has been observed to celebrate and to chalk out a realistic and effective roadmap for the economic, political and social achievements of women. The celebration of the International Women’s Day focuses on the areas requiring further emphasis and strives to rekindle worldwide attention and awareness on women’s empowerment, gender equality and advancement of women. During the past century, we witnessed a sea change in women’s legal rights, educational achievements, and participation in public life. Radiating confidence, intellect, strength, and above all dignity, women have made their presence felt in every sphere, be it in the arena of armed forces, education, science and technology, medical sciences, sports and games or nation building.”

Reflecting on the theme of the International Women’s Day 2015, Mr. Aggarwal said, “The theme of International Women’s Day 2015 - ‘Empowering Women – Empowering Humanity: Picture It! - aims at encouraging effective actions for advancement and recognition of women. It inspires and persuades governments, communities and, above all women themselves to bring in positive changes in the lives of women in every sphere of the society. The theme also highlights the importance of bringing in positive changes for women not simply because it is a matter of fairness and fundamental human rights, but because progress in so many other areas depends on it.” He observed, “An in-depth analysis of countries with more gender equality has shown that these countries have better socio-economic growth.  Similarly, companies with more women leaders have performed better.  This analysis reveals that bringing in positive advancements for women means progress for all and this simple truth must be central as we work to accelerate progress of our nation and our world. Hence, we have a common obligation to ensure that the right of women to live free from the violence that affects one in three women globally; to earn equal pay for equal work; to be free of the discrimination that prevents her from participating in the socio-political and economic fields; to have an equal say in the decisions that affect her life; and to decide if and when she will have children and how many she will have.”

Director (Pipelines) remarked that for every woman and girl on the planet, women’s rights and equality is not a dream; it is a duty of governments and the leaders. He observed, “To achieve this, the Government of India has unveiled broad-based social security schemes such as the ‘Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana’, ‘Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Bima Yojana’, ‘Atal Pension Yojana’, etc.” On the occasion of the celebration of the International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to women’s rights and review our pledge to make women an equal and integral part of our development journey. The advancement of women means progress for all. Together, we must work for women’s rights, empowerment and gender equality as we strive to eliminate poverty and promote sustainable development.  The fastest way to change society is to mobilize the women of the world.”

Earlier, addressing on the occasion, Ms. Nishi Khurana, President, Forum for Women in Public Sector (WIPS), said, “The celebration of the International Women’s Day is a day to introspect where we wanted to go and where we have reached. It is also a day to introspect our strengths, weaknesses and successes and move forward.” She observed, “There are women today who are more professionally qualified and talented... Today, the work environment has become highly conducive. However, there is a lot more to be done to achieve total gender equality and acceptability of working women in the society. Hence, it is time to deliberate and initiate sincere efforts both at personal and team levels for women’s empowerment, advancement, equality and elimination of gender bias.”
