Carbon neutralization initiative undertaken at Chakan
Bottling Plant, Pune

The CMC meet held in New Delhi, today, has been made carbon neutral by sequestering the Green House Gases (GHG), released from the event, through tree planatattion. This is the 14th carbon neutral CMC meet.

Carbon neutral event indicates that the net greenhouse gas emitted due to an event, will be sequestered completely through trees in a specified duration. The concept of carbon neutral event has been gaining credence among many corporates as a measure to counteract the widespread impact from the changing global climate. So far, nearly 60 major events have been sucessfully made carbon neutral, by sequestering 3,000 tonnes of carbon di-oxide released from such events. Emission from this one-day CMC Meet was a result of participant’s travel, stay in guest houses, hotels, electricity and LPG consumption at the event venue etc. Based on activity data, the CMC Meet is estimated to release about 9.2 MT of GHG, i.e. primarily carbon di-oxide. The GHG emitted through the event is estimated to be captured over a period of 21 years by 40 tree saplings planted at Chakan Bottling Plant, Pune.

IndianOil is commited to reduce emissions and has taken many initiatives, in various directions, such as energy efficiency and conservation in operations, generation of wind and solar power, energy audit, green building, carbon footprinting, retail outlet and office building solaisation, tree plantation, biogas generation etc.
