New Delhi   31-Mar-2016

Suzlon Energy, India’s largest wind turbine maker, has signed a contract with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) to construct 48.30 megawatts wind power project in Rajasthan, which would earn it total revenues of about Rs 314 crore.

The project consists of 11 units of S97 120metre tall all-steel hybrid tower and 12 units of S97 90metre tall tubular tower with rated capacity of 2.1 mw each. The project has the potential to provide power to 26,000 households and reduce 0.10 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum, Suzlon said in a BSE filing.

Based in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur districts of Rajasthan, the project is scheduled for completion by March 2017, an official told FC. Suzlon would provide comprehensive operation and maintenance of the project for an initial period of 10 years. As per the industry thumb rule, the cost for a 1 MW wind turbine is around Rs 6 crore, so a 48.30 mw wind project would generate about Rs 314 crore in revenues.

IOCL is the country’s leading public sector unit in the oil industry and has been meeting India’s energy demands for over half a century.

Suzlon is developing one of the country’s largest wind parks in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, with installations of over 1,100 mw. As on March 2015, Rajasthan’s total wind installations stood at 3,307 mw out of which 1,569 mw has been contributed by Suzlon. “The repeat order from Indian Oil Corporation Limited is a testimony of our customer confidence in our technology which helps us partner with the nation’s leading PSUs in their transition to sustainable energy architecture,” Ishwar Mangal, chief sales officer at Suzlon Group, said.

He said the company’s next generation technology has come in handy to continue to fulfill the growing demands of electricity in the country.

“Suzlon is best positioned to leverage its technological expertise for the Indian terrain. With the ambitious government target of 175 GW by 2022, that comprises 60 GW of wind energy, shows the Government’s commitment in building a greener tomorrow, “Mangal said.
