New Delhi 10-Dec-2008
With a view to ensure good quality and exact quantity of fuel to its consumers, IndianOil plans to automate 80 more high selling fuel pumps in three States of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir - within one year. "We have plans to automate our 80 more fuel outlets in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in a span of one year,"the IndianOil (Punjab State Office) Deputy General Manager, Mr. Gurmeet Singh, said here, adding that the company planned to cover 65-70 per cent of its total volume under the automation exercise. In the first phase, the company had automated 115 outlets in these very States, besides Chandigarh. The company plans to target those fuel outlets that have sales of two lakh or more litres of fuel a month. Planned to spend an average amount of Rs 14 lakh an outlet for its automation, the company has roped in Honeywell India Ltd for undertaking automation of fuel outlets across the country. Enable Regulation Besides bringing transparency in the dispensation of fuel to customers, the automation exercise of fuel outlets would also enable the company officials to keep a continuous check on the availability, sales and stock position of fuel at any point of time with a particular fuel outlet owner. "Since we will be having the record of each fuel transaction with time and quantity along with online data of stock position, the pump owner will be caught immediately if he tries to either short sell the fuel or mix something in it in a bid to hoodwink the customer," he said. IndianOil is also planning to open 12 more Kisan Sewa Kendras in rural areas, aimed at allowing owners to sell farm as well as insurance products to villagers.
