Advantages of reticulated LPG supply system highlighted
Guwahati   17-Dec-2008
Distribution of cooking fuel through Reticulated LPG System offers considerable benefits for consumers, awareness of which is still limited in Assam. A seminar to spread knowledge about the technology and its advantages was organised in the city by LPG Group, IndianOil. Reticulated LPG system involves the supply of Indane LPG through pipes from centralised bulk installation or through a bank of cylinders. IndianOil in some places, including in a residential apartment block in the city, has introduced the new concept. The seminar held today pointed out that consumers find it more convenient than other forms of sourcing fuel because the supply of LPG is seamless, and can be regulated with ease. With the source and end users connected by pipes, one need not go through the process of refill booking. Reticulated LPG supply by doing away with individual cylinders, save kitchen space, and thus also reduce wear and tear of floor surface. The economic benefits from the system have been described as substantial because LPG consumption is low because of it being supplied at low pressure. Additional savings take place because the element of under weight cylinders is absent. It has been found that using gas-based geyser instead of electrical geyser results in substantial savings for the consumer. From the angle of safety, reticulated LPG supply has increased safety margins because of 'under pressure shut oft valve' in kitchen and 'overpressure shut off valve' in another part of the system. In case of emergencies, accessing a centralised location rather than retrieving cylinders from different locations could better manage a reticulated system. The new system that has been tried and tested is environment friendly, and is compatible with sustainable living standards. Today's function was inaugurated by Mr. AC Sharma, Deputy General Manager (CS), IndianOil, North East Integrated State Office.
